If you don’t know what to wear for your family portrait session, you’re not alone….. and you’re in the right place!!!

Believe it or not, but when it comes to beautiful family photographs, your outfit plays an important role.

Knowing what to wear can help you feel confident in front of the camera and elevate your images.

My number one tip for clients is: you should always feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. Your photographs should reflect you, and who you are. If you normally wear dresses or skirts, then that is what you should wear, if you normally wear jeans and a comfortable tee, then you should consider wearing that.

Here are some things to consider when deciding what to wear for your family portrait.

SOLID COLOURS.
You should opt for solid colours over busy patterns. Solid colours create a clean and classic look that will last.
Avoid clothing with large logos/graphics, big stripes or patterns, all these can draw the attention away from the faces in the image.

NEUTRAL SHADES.
Neutral shades look flattering on everyone. Shades like cream, beige, white and grey look great on most skin tones and can be easily mixed and matched.
You should avoid bright neon colours which can be distracting and cast undesired colours on faces.

CONSIDER YOUR LOCATION.
If your photography session is at the beach, light, flowy fabrics like linen or cotton in soft colours like whites, creams or pastel blues will blend in with the background. If your session is in the bush or nature, earthy tones likes browns, greens and mustard compliment the natural environment. You can add textures like knits or corduroy to add visual interest.
